Hello, I’m Karen, I live in Hertfordshire with my family and our crazy dachshund. I have been a registered nurse for over 30 years, specialising in critical care and as a hospital matron. I now work as a university lecturer teaching our future nurses.
Like many professionals, drinking gradually became woven into the way I coped with stress, emotions and exhaustion.
Long shifts, caring for others, disrupted sleep and the challenges of midlife led to alcohol feeling like a normal coping response.
Over time, I began to notice how deeply drinking culture affects so many capable and successful women in nursing, healthcare, and other high pressure professions.
After the pandemic, I experienced personally how trauma, burnout, grief and anxiety can change our relationship with alcohol without us recognising it straight away.
What I discovered through breaking up with alcohol was a sense of calm, a clearer head for decisions, more energy to get things done, and much better emotional awareness.
I became interested in the science of behaviour change, nervous system regulation, mindfulness, breathwork and the role life coaching can play in helping people create sustainable change in a supportive way.
I trained as a life coach specialising in alcohol change because I wanted to offer the support, respect and space I believe many of us need but cannot find because of the stigma, shame and fear that is attached to asking for help with alcohol and underlying reasons for drinking.
My coaching works well for anyone who feels they need to change their drinking alongside realigning other areas of their life. I also offer low cost and accessible private alcohol coaching to NHS nurses and healthcare practitioners.
I offer a calm, totally confidential and professional approach that understands the challenges of drinking culture and the need to balance stress and wellbeing whilst caring for others.
I can promise you a welcoming space that supports you to explore change with self compassion, courage, respect and trust.
You do not have to reach crisis point before you reach out for support. If alcohol is not working for you anymore, coaching is a proactive way to focus on the change you want.
Changing your relationship with alcohol doesn’t require strength, willpower or a rock bottom incentive. It's deeply personal and different for each individual. It can be full of ups and downs, physically exhausting and emotionally difficult, and you are not supposed to go through this alone.
I have a trauma informed coaching certificate, life coaching accreditation, and I draw on my clinical experience to coach with knowledge, expertise and kindness.
I am not offering ‘quick fix’ sobriety. My professional, evidence based approach to coaching will steadily guide you to achieving lasting change.
You don’t need to wait for the perfect time to change, today can be your Day 1.
